Thai baht rises to 13 weeks high

As I pack my bags and head to Thailand for a holiday (for Forex research purposes... yeah right), I thought, would it be appropriate blog about Thai baht's strength. The dynamics behind the baht was nothing incredibly short and as so often in the foreign exchange markets, the currency's rise self-fulfilling has become. It has already guessed 13-year high 8.5% last year towards one and some analysts are predicting that this just the beginning.

THB USD Baht Dollar Chart 2006-2010

The last time I traveled to Thailand, 2004, trading was the baht around 40 USD/THB compared to the current exchange rate from 30.7.This is pretty amazing when you consider that for the meantime, Thailand behandelt.Und experienced a military coup and similar political instability as well as a financial crisis, a severe blow to the emerging market currencies of the world but, if the baht's performance against the dollar chart, would have only the faintest ideas that either this took place crises.

To be sure, the financial crisis provided a high tribute to Thai financial markets and the Thai economy. Schlingerte stock and prices down, as foreign investors cash currencies like the US dollar and Japanese Yen moved to so-called safe haven. However, was the Thai economy among the first to emerge from recession in 2009 and 2010 surging. "Compared with the previous year, GDP rose by 9.1%, while the economy grew 10.6% in the first half," according to the latest data.Tourism, one which has the country's pillar industries, already recovered, together with exports and Verbrauch.Projizierte export growth of 27% is expected the economy forward on 7, 5% in the year 2010, to drive both the IMF and the Thai Government projections.  The consensus is that growth would have even more spectacular (maybe 1-2% higher) if not for the political protests that were crushed in May of this year.

Thailand GDP 2008-2010

Despite concerns about risk and volatility are foreign investors once again means in Thailand in a record pace casting. About $ 1.4 billion in the stock market has been pumped alone in the year to date. As a result, "Thailand's benchmark SET index has rebounded30 percent since May... helping send the SET to its highest level since November 1996."Capital inflows are also spurred is Thai interest rates rising (the benchmark is currently at 1.75%), even, while the rates in the industrialized world remain flat. At this point exceeds the money come in Thailand well the money out, which remains low due to the steady imports and limitations capital outflows of Thai individuals and institutions. This imbalance reflected recently surpassed $ 150 billion in the Central Bank of Thailand's foreign exchange reserves, more than 50% of GDP.

Anticipation is building that some use their reserves for Thailand, to stopped or reverse even the appreciation of the baht. After the last week, intervention by the Bank of Japan is seen not only as unacceptable but also necessary such intervention.Pressure which has Prime Minister the Central Bank take at least an emergency, to determine the best course of action einberufen. So far, can only approve members, restrictions on capital flows and credit standards to exporters should be relaxed.

Value for what is Thailand's richest man in the Central Bank not to be asked: "is probably fruitless as foreign capital is expected, that ceaselessly flood in Thailand because of the country's healthy economic recovery and growth to exportieren.Der baht as a matter of fact become even stronger Thailand policy in normal State should remain."He is supported by the facts that show that the Thai export sector just fine given the rising baht, although perhaps has stopped just because other Asian currencies at a similar pace increased.

If other central banks strengthen its intervention-(Deutsche Bank has argued on the chart below, all "Asian central banks have to prevent USD depreciation in this region for many years more or less permanently in the market who clear their currencies""stabilisation" "but with a bias against")-the Bank of Thailand would probably have no other choice but to follow.
